Only Light Can Drive Out The Darkness

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Lincoln Witness is a group committed to nonviolent resistance against an increasingly lawless administration. First our immigrant neighbors were vilified, stripped of valid papers, detained for months under horrific conditions, deported to prisons in countries not their own. We’ve seen families and neighborhoods ripped apart, terrorized by masked agents acting with impunity. We know that American citizens have been summarily detained based simply on their ethnicity. And now, it’s clear that the target is growing to include anyone who disagrees with those in power. Lies are delivered as policy, masquerading as normal. It is not normal. History tells us that this is what happens when a free, democratic way of life is threatened.

We find ourselves in a dark time, and the darkness is deepening. Our priority is clear. We will bring light. We will seek understanding that dispels ignorance, we must choose hope over despair. We will have the courage to keep telling the truth, and serve as witnesses to protect ourselves, our families, our friends, and our neighbors. In the face of darkness, we will show up to support not just our Constitutional rights, but our humanity.

This will be the land of the free, only if it’s the home of the brave.

What can you do?

  • Stand with your neighbors. You’re invited to a peaceful, non-partisan and family-friendly vigil on Sunday, January 18 from 5pm to 6:30pm in front of town offices (16 Lincoln Rd, Lincoln, MA). Here we will honor the Light of Liberty—understanding, truth, decency, and justice. Please bring your flashlight and dress warmly. Lincoln Witness members will be wearing Lady Liberty crowns and Lady Liberty buttons.
  • Attend a Benefit Concert for Immigrant Emergency Relief on February 8, at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, from 2:30-4:30 pm, featuring the Honey Steelers band. Refreshments will be served, and several exciting raffles will be included in the $20 ticket price. For now, please save the date, and look for details later this week.
